VRS ATTACK
UNPROFOR
Thomas Karremans, the Dutch battalion commander contacted the UNPROFOR Chief of Staff in Sarajevo, again requesting close air support in response to an attack on observation post "Foxtrot." The request was denied. The assessment was made by his superiors in Sarajevo and Zagreb that it would be better to withdraw from the UN observation posts, as the frontlines were already behind the Morillon lines (the original negotiated borders) of the "safe area." UNPROFOR officials in Sarajevo and Zagreb also believed the VRS did not intend to overrun the entire enclave, but only take control of strategic areas in its southern part.
